About Our Spravato®Therapy Treatment
Depression is a stubborn disorder that takes a lot to clear out. When it does not go away that easily, it can feel exhausting, draining, isolating and discouraging. When depression doesn’t go away, there happens the need to use a much advanced tool to treat it. Spravato® (esketamine) therapy is for the individuals who do not respond to the traditional antidepressant methods. At Gainesville Psychiatry, we provide Spravato® in a very carefully monitored and supporting medical setting where every step towards care is guided with compassion, precision, safety and security.
Spravato® creates a meaningful shift in how certain types of depression are treated, providing a renewed faith and possibility when the progress has felt limited.

What Is Spravato® (Esketamine)?
Spravato® is an FDA approved nasal spray medication used for the treatment of treatment resistant depression and for certain cases of major depressive disorder with acute suicidal thoughts or ideation. It contains esketamine, a refined form of ketamine developed specifically for therapeutic use only under strict medical supervision.
Spravato® acts on the brain’s glutamate system. It’s closely linked to mood regulation, cognition and neural connectivity. Other antidepressants primarily target serotonin and norepinephrine. Spravato® can help regain the lost communication between brain cells affected by severe depression.

How Spravato® Works
Depression can disrupt the brain’s ability to function properly and to form and maintain healthy neural connections. Spravato® works effectively different by:
- Empowering neural communication
- Supporting brain plasticity and adaptability
- Eliminating depressive symptoms more rapidly than the traditional medications for some individuals
Here at Gainesville Psychiatry, treatment is administered on site followed by a required observation period to ensure safety and response.

When is Spravato® Treatment Considered
Spravato® cannot be used as a front line treatment. Spravato® is only used when depression remains untreated and severe despite using the traditional antidepressant methods and appropriate and continuous care.
Treatment Resistant Depression:
Individuals with inadequate response to multiple antidepressants and traditional treatments for depression.
Functional Impairment:
Individuals who experience persistent, functionally impairing depressive symptoms.

Critical Need:
Individuals needing rapid symptom relief due to the severity of the condition.
Treatment Plateau:
Individuals who have reached a plateau despite medication and psychotherapy.
